Security fears after candidate addresses published

Security concerns have been raised after a loophole forced councils to publish the home addresses of candidates standing in the EU elections.

Following recent campaigns of abuse and intimidation, the Government introduced new rules that removed the requirement for candidates to have their home addresses published.

However, the EU elections were not included in the statutory instruments because the poll had not been expected to happen, meaning councils now have no option but to publish the addresses of candidates, including some very high profile figures.
