Salford to live stream council meetings

Salford City Council is to live stream and record public meetings following a new law to improve transparency in local government.

Following the launch of a new law allowing the public to film, record and tweet from council meetings, the council has decided to make its proceedings as open as possible.

City Mayor Ian Stewart said: "Members of the public have always been welcome to attend meetings to see how the council works - unless a motion is passed at the meeting to exclude members of the press and public because of confidential business.

‘Now we are taking things one step further by videoing and live streaming open proceedings so more people can see how decisions are made.’
