An inquest has begun at Sheffield Coroner's Court following the death of a foster carer who was run over by her 12-year-old dependant.
Marcia Grant, an experienced foster carer, was run over by her foster child six days after his placement began, according to the BBC.
Grant suffered ‘catastrophic injuries’ after the 12-year-old boy reversed over her in her own car outside their home.
Following a hearing on Monday, the boy has now been sentenced to two years in custody on account of causing death by dangerous driving.
The Coroners' Court inquest will investigate Rotherham Council’s approval of the child’s emergency foster placement with Grant and her husband, Delroy, who were already looking after one child.
Although the hearing revealed the placement was temporary and subject to constant review, social worker David Wade reportedly disagreed with the decision due to the impact on the existing foster child.
The council has been contacted for comment.
