Rochdale chief to get reduced pay increase

The chief executive of Rochdale Council has seen his proposed pay rise slashed following widespread public criticism.

Jim Taylor will now receive an increase of 1% following a council meeting yesterday.

Mr Taylor currently earns £130,000 a year and earlier this year it was proposed to raise his salary by £40,000 to bring it in line with other council chief executives in the region.

A council spokesman said: ‘There have been a number of options presented to the employment committee and now to full council.

‘The council has decided to assimilate executive directors onto a director’s pay grade frozen at the starting point, plus a 1% pay award. The chief executive will only receive the 1% increase.’
