Campaigners have called on Reform UK to kick out 12 newly elected councillors for racism – including antisemitism and Islamophobia – and praising the Nazis.
Following last week's local elections in which Reform won more than 1,300 council seats across England, the group Hope not Hate has revealed a dozen councillors the campaign group says Reform ‘should have already expelled’.
Between them, the councillors have called for Nigerians to be melted to fill potholes, said they want Muslims to be blasted off the face of the earth, said that Jews were ‘creating division by forcing other races on our societies’, and described the Nazis as ‘real visionaries’.
Among those named is Glenn Gibbins, elected for the Hylton Castle ward in Sunderland, who wrote on Facebook in March 2024 about the number of Nigerians in his town, and Nathaniel Menday, who calls himself an ‘ethno-nationalist’ and has been elected to Sheffield City Council for the Woodhouse ward.
Also on the list is Derek Bullock, now sitting on Bolton Council, who had previously been expelled from the Conservatives over alleged racism. Following the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017, images emerged of a post allegedly sent by Bullock which said ‘Shoot the P*kis on the spot.’ Bullock has claimed the post was fake.
At least four newly elected Reform UK councillors have been suspended, expelled or resigned their seats since polling day. Hope not Hate says that is not enough and is calling on the party to take immediate action against the twelve councillors named in its report.
Reform UK has been contacted for comment.
