Polydeck

A pedestrian footbridge in Bristol has been given a new lease of life thanks to the addition of a new anti-slip surface from Polydeck.

Despite South Gloucestershire Council’s best efforts to patch repair the surface of Primrose Bridge, in the North West of the city, it was clear that a more drastic refurbishment of the bridge’s surface would be necessary to bring it up to current safety standards.

They contacted Polydeck, whose experience in manufacturing market leading anti-slip products spans a vast range of projects, including the award winning Millennium Walkway in Derbyshire, which it completed earlier this year.

Polydeck recommended the application of GRIPFAST NT Slurry, a three part, anti-slip wearing course and waterproofing membrane, designed for use on steel, concrete and aluminium substrates. Chris Spooner, managing director of Polydeck, said: “The existing footbridge surface had been patch repaired many times and was delaminating and slippery and in need of complete replacement.

“We recommended GRIPFAST NT Slurry as it is generally specified in applications when weight is a consideration as it proves a durable yet lightweight anti-slip solution for either pedestrian or heavy vehicular traffic.” After mechanically removing the existing surface before applying a primer, Polydeck applied the GRIPFAST Slurry before dressing the surface with a 1-3mm aggregate and finally conducting a thorough sweep to remove any excess.

Because it is used in combination with dynagrip aggregate, GRIPFAST NT Slurry is a proven product having been applied to bridges, cycleways, flyovers and RORO ramps for the last 40 years. GRIPFAST NT Slurry has a typical design life of 20 years.
