Plaid Cymru has promised to ringfence £590m investment in health services if elected in May next year.
The party’s shadow health minister, Elin Jones, said the pledge would improve health services in Wales following its ‘dramatic’ decline under the current Labour government. The money would be used to integrate health and social care, and recruit an extra 1,000 doctors.
Elin Jones said: ‘By ringfencing this money, we would be able to prioritise training and recruiting a 1,000 extra doctors in Wales, protecting local services, and integrating health and social care so that care for our elderly and vulnerable is planned seamlessly and with dignity and so that we can bring down waiting times.
‘Our Road Map for Wales unveiled on Monday outlines just some of the ways in which a Plaid Cymru government would deliver a health service that ensures people get the care they need, whenever and wherever they may need it.’
