Oxfordshire Council urged not to cut early intervention services

Trade union Unite is urging Oxfordshire County Council to reconsider plans to cut 700 jobs and reduce services for vulnerable people.

The union is warning the council could face strike action over its proposals to close four early intervention hubs, six satellite hubs and 37 children centres. The hubs were set up in 2011 to deliver ‘progressive ad cost-effective’ services.

David Ricketts, Unite branch secretary, said: ‘Hundreds of families and young people face losing vital support from a highly skilled and dedicated workforce in another cost slashing exercise.’

’The people of Oxfordshire need to take a stand against this attack on its children and young people. It can’t be right that the county’s most vulnerable people and families are once again bearing the brunt of council cuts.’
