More than 200,000 properties in the South East are at risk of flooding, the Environment Agency has warned.
The agency urged homeowners to register for flood warnings and prepare emergency plans after revealing that the 18 months leading to February 2024 were the wettest on record.
The number of properties across the South East at risk of flooding include over 30,400 in East Sussex and more than 25,800 in West Sussex, according to the agency.
Nearly 80,000 and 70,000 properties in Kent and Surrey respectively are also at risk.
Caroline Douglass, executive director of flood and coastal risk management at the Environment Agency, said: ‘Climate change means extreme weather events are happening more frequently, and we have already seen an unusually wet September this year.’
