Norwich City Council has backed proposals for three unitary councils in Norfolk.
Councillors expressed their support for the plans at a council meeting on Tuesday.
In a statement, the local authority confirmed that councillors across all political parties approved the proposals, which include establishing a Greater Norwich Authority and two additional unitary councils.
According to the council, the ‘Future Norfolk’ partnership consists of the following local authorities: Breckland Council, Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, Broadland District Council, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, North Norfolk District Council, and Norwich City Council.
Council leader, Mike Stonard, said: ‘As a single tier council with all the levers for growth and key services available, Norwich has the potential to accelerate growth, increase population, homes and local prosperity in a way that benefits not only the city and region, but the whole country.’
The submission for the Future Norfolk bid will be presented to Government tomorrow.
