Norfolk County Council's deputy leader has written to newly appointed Secretary of State for local government Angela Rayner, urging her to halt local government reorganisation (LGR) in Norfolk.

In his letter, Cllr Robin Hunter-Clarke argues residents did not ask for the shake-up and warns it would cost an estimated £96m.

He says Government officials could not confidently confirm the proposed model would deliver savings over the current two-tier system, and that the Department of Health and Social Care expressed scepticism over projected efficiencies from prevention and early intervention.

The council has applied for a judicial review of the reorganisation decision. Cllr Hunter-Clarke has also requested a meeting with the Secretary of State to discuss the issue further.
