The UK’s leading anti-pothole campaigner has announced his retirement after 12 years urging Westminster to do more to improve roads.
On the tenth anniversary of National Pothole Day, Mark ‘Mr Pothole’ Morrell said he was stepping back because of his wife’s deteriorating health.
He also said he had ‘lost faith’ in any Government or political party doing what is required to finally tackle the backlog in road repairs.
Speaking to Good Morning Britain, Mr Morrell said: ‘If the Government had said they’re going to put in an extra £3bn a year to resurface our roads, I could see there being some change, but unfortunately that’s not going to happen.’
According to the latest research by the AA, the cost of pothole damage to vehicles increased by more than £1m last year.
