Ministers have promised a compensation scheme for survivors of child sexual abuse (CSA) including those abused in council care.
Home secretary Suella Braverman confirmed yesterday the Government will adopt many of the key proposals from the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) chaired by Professor Alexis Jay.
In the Government’s formal response to IICSA’s final report, which made 20 major recommendations to tackle the UK ‘epidemic’ of child abuse, the Home Office accepted in principle the mandatory reporting of suspected CSA for specific public sector staff – including teachers, care staff and others.
The Home Office’s response also confirmed that a compensation scheme for abuse victims will be established.
