An overhaul of data sharing with council elections teams is required, a report by the Electoral Commission has concluded.
Research published by the elections watchdog today found up to eight million people in the UK are either missing from registers or incorrectly registered.
It also found little evidence to suggest levels of accuracy were likely to improve ‘without major changes to the current electoral registration system’.
