Lyons calls time on chairing BBC Trust

Sir Michael Lyons has announced he will step down as chairman of the BBC Trust when his current term ends in May next year.

The former Birmingham City Council chief executive – and author of the Lyons Review into local government finance – said he would not seek a second term after his current four-year stint is up. Sir Michael told The MJ: ‘My continuing interest in local government; ensuring the right balance between central and local responsibilities across the UK and strengthening local economies is a matter of public record.

The Lyons Review was praised by Eric Pickles at a CLG select committee this week.’
