Hackney Council is launching a Finnish-style baby box initiative that will see prospective parents receive products aimed at helping them prepare for parenthood.
The council said the Welcome Hackney Babies initiative will be launched in the Autumn, and will probably include a firm mattress, waterproof cover and cotton sheet, although this has not been confirmed yet.
Based on the Finnish Baby Box, but tailored for Hackney residents, the initiative was piloted by Public Health in July 2015 to new families living in the east of the borough.
The soon-to-be parents will be required to watch an instructional video delivered by local health professionals and take a quiz before receiving their baby box.
The Baby Box co. have offered to provide the online education resource and baby boxes for free to new Hackney parents.
