Manchester City Council unveils 15-year plan to deliver homes, jobs, and green spaces.
The council’s executive committee met yesterday to discuss the draft local plan, which sets out the local authority’s aims to drive development and growth in the region.
The plan also places an emphasis on affordable housing, infrastructure, healthcare, education and climate goals.
As part of the housing provision targets, the draft proposes that the council intends to deliver 60,000 new homes in Manchester between 2022 and 2039, while suggesting that 30% of the stock will be affordable housing.
The plan also pledges to boost green spaces and biodiversity, improve high streets and design quality, as well as supporting transport, jobs and the local economy.
In a statement last week, Cllr Gavin White, Manchester City Council's executive member for housing and development, said: ‘Manchester has huge ambitions to make our city even better with great neighborhoods and more good quality homes and well-paid jobs for all of our residents.
‘Our hugely ambitious Housing Strategy is delivering thousands of genuinely affordable, council and social homes in the city. We built more council and social homes last year than we’ve done in well over a decade.’
According to the Cllr White, the public will be able to provide feedback on the plans in the approaching weeks.
