The Government is considering introducing changes to ‘outdated’ licensing regulations limiting hospitality venues.
The fast-track review will seek to reduce ‘pointless restrictions’ on spaces such as pubs and bars, with the aim of supporting small businesses and high streets.
Landlords and residents will be invited to share their views and provide evidence during the ‘four-week blitz’, which will see the nine key recommendations from the Government’s Licensing Taskforce concentrated on, specifically the improvement of on-trade alcohol licensing.
According to the Government, the move could invite ‘more fun, flavour and connection’ to social spaces across Britain.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: ‘Pubs and bars are the beating heart of our communities. Under our Plan for Change, we’re backing them to thrive.
‘This review is about cutting red tape, boosting footfall, and making it easier for venues to put on the kind of events that bring people together. When our locals do well, our economy does too.’
