Fewer than 100 homes acquired using a fund to support English councils obtain housing for those fleeing conflicts have been occupied, according to the latest figures.

The National Audit Office has said that, as of 8 August, 905 homes had been acquired thanks to the £500m Local Authority Housing Fund (LAHF), with just 93 occupied.

The Government had expected local authorities to use the fund to obtain and refurbish property to provide sustainable housing for people who were in England under the Afghan or Ukraine schemes and were unable to secure their own accommodation.

However, sector sources have suggested there had been poor take up of the fund.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities is currently forecasting a total of 3,365 homes being acquired with the funding by April.
