Mandarins have denied they do not have a clear picture of homelessness levels among Ukrainian refugees.
Officials from the Home Office and Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) today faced the Public Accounts Committee to answer questions about the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
Plaid Cymru MP Ben Lake said that, as all councils were not required to submit data on how many refugees had become homeless, ‘we don’t have a full, accurate picture of the situation’.
DLUHC permanent secretary Sarah Healey said the department had to ‘set a balanced judgement’ on requesting data to avoid adding burdens to councils.
She added the ‘vast majority have at least provided some data’ and ‘we know enough to identify some pretty clear trends’.
