Housing experts have issued a 'pledge' they say will help tackle domestic abuse.
The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) says four commitments in its Make a Stand pledge will help organisations support people experiencing abuse.
They include making information about national and local support services available on websites and other places which are easily accessible to residents and staff of housing organisations.
HR policies and procedures on the issue should be incorporated into existing policies to support members of staff who are experiencing domestic abuse.
And the institute, which launched the pledge with the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance and Women’s Aid, says 'champions' should be appointed to help tackle the problem.
Alison Inman, CIH president, said: 'As housing organisations we house and employ millions of people and it is our duty to do more to tackle this issue.
'These are our homes, our people and this is our problem.'
