The London borough of Hounslow’s website has been ranked as the best in the country, according to a new index of local government websites.
The council’s website has been chosen as the best in local government in the Sitemorse Index, scoring 9.3 out of a possible 10. The scoring meant Hounslow was able to hold on to the top spot for a second time running.
Pritam Grewal, cabinet member for communications and communities at Hounslow Council, said: ‘Getting to the top of Sitemorse’s rankings once was great, to do it again is incredible! A reliable, accessible website is crucial to helping us meet the demands of our residents and we are always working to make sure the site meets high standards.’
Cornwall Council’s website also scored well, gaining 8.7 out of 10. The Scottish Border Council also managed to move from near the bottom of the table in 2010 to obtain the third spot, scoring 8.5.
The independent benchmark also found that local government websites score higher than any other audited in terms of accessibility, with no authorities scoring less than nine out of ten in this area.
