High Court ruling against Birmingham welcomed

AdviceUK has welcomed the High Court’s ruling that Birmingham City Council’s decision to cut funding for 13 charities was unlawful.

Mr Justice Blake ruled last month that the council’s decision to cut more than £1m of funding to 13 charities was unlawful in a case brought by three local voluntary organisations.

‘We welcome the decision to send Birmingham City Council back to the drawing board,’ said AdviceUK’s head of policy and campaigns, Phil Jew.

‘The ruling should also serve as a warning to other councils not to implement cuts without properly considering the implications.’
