Herefordshire Council has approved a £2.055m investment over the next two years to boost flood resilience for homes, businesses and infrastructure across the county’s most vulnerable areas.
Flooding has caused major disruption in recent years, with over 400 properties damaged and roads closed in 2024 alone.
The funding will deliver a comprehensive Flood Response Programme in 2025/26 and 2026/27, aimed at reducing both the likelihood and impact of future flood events.
The programme will include a mix of engineered and nature-based schemes, alongside improved signage, monitoring technology and specialist software to strengthen the county’s ability to plan for and manage flooding.
The council’s commitment will also help unlock further national grants by demonstrating local investment.
Cllr Dan Hurcomb, Cabinet Member for Local Engagement and Community Resilience, said the funding would ‘deliver real, lasting benefits for the people of Herefordshire.’
