Glasgow has joined local leaders from three continents to commit to ending homelessness and call for global action on the issue.
The city council’s convener for workforce, homelessness and addiction services, Allan Casey, met members of the International Mayors Council on Homelessness to sign a joint declaration.
The forum was created last year to enable mayors and local politicians to discuss their role in ending homelessness, the key barriers cities face and successful approaches.
It aims to use local knowledge to shape national policy and the United Nations agenda, and to advocate for new resources and funding.
Members include Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham, who chairs the forum, as well as Lambeth and Sheffield council leaders and a deputy mayor of London.
Mayors from the USA, Brazil, Canada and Finland are also members.
Cllr Casey said: ‘Glasgow is delighted to be a member of the International Mayors Council on Homelessness.
‘Collaboration remains at the heart of our approach to tackling what is a highly complex social issue.
‘Nobody should need to sleep on the streets in Glasgow and where we can, we're keen to learn from others about how we can improve lives, and our services.’
