The Local Government Association has proposed to establish a skills and employment working group as it seeks to influence national politicians ahead of the election.

It wants to bring together local government partner associations, councils and devolved authorities in a time-limited officer working group to persuade the political parties to back a ‘devolved and localised approach’.

A detailed scoping document, seen by The MJ, read: ‘Too often programmes and services are designed, commissioned and overseen centrally by different Whitehall departments, agencies or providers with little input from local government, except if you are in a devolution area.
