A campaign against threatening and abusive behaviour towards front line workers has been launched in East Suffolk.

East Suffolk Council and its local authority trading company, East Suffolk Services Ltd, launched the campaign after an increase in aggression and abuse of staff.

In one incident a member of staff was sexually harassed by a member of the public, according to the council.

An arson attempt was also made at one of East Suffolk Services’ depots.

Commenting on the rise of abusive incidents, Cassandra Clements, managing director at East Suffolk Services, said it was ‘completely unacceptable’ and would ‘not be tolerated.’

Cllr Paul Ashton, East Suffolk’s deputy leader and cabinet member for Corporate Services, added: ‘Staff are working hard on behalf of their communities and are committed to delivering the best possible service for local people. They should be able to do this without fear of abuse or aggression and we will seek the strongest possible action against any perpetrators.’
