An inclusive growth framework sets out plans to boost job opportunities and communities across the East Midlands.
Created by East Midlands mayor Claire Ward, the East Midlands Inclusive Growth Commission has provided a framework to help optimise local skills, promote job growth and support ‘community ties’.
According to the report published yesterday by the Commission, £200bn could be generated for the region’s economy over the next 10 years if more investment and Government funding is secured.
The study found that the strongest career opportunities in the East Midlands are in the following eight ‘industrial strategy sectors’: advanced manufacturing, creative industries, life sciences, professional services, defence, digital technologies, clean energy and financial services.
It also recommends a ‘bottom up’ approach to growth, by upskilling workers to secure higher-paying and more advanced roles, while also removing barriers to work and supporting young people with career advice.
Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, said: ‘This is a call to action for all of us – government, business, communities – to invest in our people and places.
‘As Mayor, I am determined to lead that change. Together we must remove the barriers that hold people back, and make sure the East Midlands is a region where every young person has the chance not just to dream, but to thrive.’
