East Lothian Council is the first local authority in Scotland to confirm a double-digit council tax increase.
Council leader Norman Hampshire said the 10% council tax hike was ‘necessary’ to invest in essential services and protect vulnerable residents.
For people living in a Band D property, the increase represents a £2.76 weekly rise – or an additional £11.96 per month.
Leader of the opposition, Cllr Lyn Jardine, commented that it is ‘extremely difficult to meet increased expectations with reduced resources.’
