County progress across the board

Leicestershire CC showcased its success in linking public health and local government at the Faculty of Public Health conference held at Birmingham University.

Dr Peter Marks, director of public health said the board was already making use of opportunities to improve the health of the population and reduce health inequalities.

He explained the board, comprising councillors, GPs and health and care officials, had started to co-locate services by accommodating public health officials within councils, and had plans to move more health bodies to county hall.

Transport, social care and trading standards are among key council activities linked up with public health.
