Councils divided over devolution deal in North Midlands

Up to four councils would not be prepared to sign up to the devolution deal in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire as it stands today, our sister magazine The MJ has learned.

The leader of Broxtowe Borough Council, Richard Jackson, said his councillors believed that the benefits have not yet been properly spelt out despite other politicians in the region pushing for an immediate deal.

He said: ‘The leaders have been working a little bit in isolation. To do it quickly would be wrong.

'If we rush headlong into this we will lose councils.
