Derby City Council has proposed cutting more than 100 jobs in what it has called its ‘most difficult budget’.
The budget proposals include savings of £10.2m and a council tax increase of 4.99%.
Under the plans, the council’s 5,000-strong workforce would be cut by 108 full-time equivalent posts.
While most job losses will be from existing vacancies, staff in 38 posts will be made redundant.
The council said it was feeling the pressure of supporting children and older people, as well as rising costs for homelessness services, with 80% of its revenue budget spent on statutory services for vulnerable residents.
Council leader Nadine Peatfield said: ‘This budget is the start of getting us into a position of sustainability and resilience.
‘Make no mistake, this has been the Council’s most difficult budget.
‘After years of cuts and underfunding from central Government we’ve had to take the toughest decisions to get us back on track.’
Following a consultation, senior councillors will discuss the plans on 18 December.
