The total amount raised from council tax is now expected to exceed £57.4bn by 2028, more than double the 2009 figure of £25.3bn, new analysis reveals.
The increase represents an average rise of £523 per household once adjusted for inflation, according to Labour’s analysis of Office for Budget Responsibility documents.
Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner told the Mirror the Tories have ‘left working people paying more for less, with the council tax bill set to double since Labour was last in Government.’
She added: ‘After 14 years of economic mismanagement, any blame for a rise in council tax lies squarely with this Conservative government.’
