West Northamptonshire Council has responded to an anti-pothole protester with a computer-generated image of a roadside sign laden with song titles.

Signs decrying the state of Daventry’s roads began popping up around the town last month, erected by a campaigner known as ‘Daventry Banksie’.

One such message, written on a door left on the side of the road, said: ‘Welcome to Pothole City home of the incompetent council’.

Another sign read: ‘Welcome to Pothole City – twinned with Grand Canyon’.

The council removed the signs. Amid widespread media attention, it has now shared an image on Facebook, digitally altering a photo of one of the signs to add its own message.

It says: ‘We know some roads are in “Dire Straits” since this winter's “Ice, Ice, Baby” and need a “Whole Lotta Love”…

‘Although we're “Under Pressure” with “Money, Money, Money”, we won't “Shake It Off” or “Let It Be” as “We Can Work It Out”’.

Daventry Banksie said in response: ‘OMG. I love it. Thank you.’

The post has received more than 250 comments, some of which are more critical.

One says: ‘Making light of risks to life and people’s livelihoods, when you are responsible for them, good one.’
