Three Yorkshire roses are set to form a ‘striking’ new landmark as part of a Barnsley Council redevelopment project.
The plans for the new sculptures are part of the first phase of revamping the Seam Digital Campus, which also involves a new urban park comprising three gardens, including a ‘digital’ garden.
The council said the roses, which will be between 12 and 15 metres tall and illuminated at night, formed part of its ambition to be the UK’s leading digital town.
Planning applications have been submitted and in March, cabinet will be asked to approve grant and council funding for the sculptures, with work anticipated to begin in the summer.
Council leader Sir Steve Houghton said: ‘We’re fiercely proud, ambitious, and bold in Barnsley, and the Yorkshire rose sculptures symbolise our town’s resilience and optimism for a bright future.’
