Wokingham Borough Council has been ordered to pay a mother £2,600 after it failed to meet her son’s special educational needs.
The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman found the council failed to provide suitable education for the young person, who has autism, for three and a half months.
It also failed to provide the correct additional special educational provision, and has been criticised by the Ombudsman for the way it handled the mother’s complaint.
After a special residential school refused to admit the young people, Wokingham said it would provide 19 weekly hours of online tutoring.
But the mother said her son needed face-to-face learning.
Several clinical psychology sessions were also cancelled because Wokingham delayed making payments.
The young person’s mother said the council’s failings impacted his academic progress and affected his development and wellbeing.
