Telford and Wrekin Council is offering a cash reward to people who report dog walkers who do not clean up after their pets.
If the report leads to a fixed penalty notice being issued, the person who informed the council will be rewarded with £50 – half the cost of the fine.
The Shropshire authority said the pilot scheme aimed to ‘encourage community engagement in maintaining the cleanliness of public spaces’.
It said residents should provide ‘as many details as possible’, including the location and time of the incident and a description of the dog and its owner, adding that all information would be treated confidentially.
Digital evidence had previously ‘proven invaluable’ in identifying offenders, the council added.
Telford and Wrekin's cabinet member for highways, housing and enforcement, Richard Overton, said: ‘We know there are a few people who persistently allow their dogs to foul in certain areas.
‘This reward scheme empowers the community to act and help us tackle this issue effectively.’
