Charnwood Borough Council has launched consultations on proposals to establish new town and parish councils, a move linked to ongoing discussions around local government reorganisation (LGR) in the area.

The council is proposing to create a parish council for Broadnook and a town council for Loughborough due to the Government’s local government reorganisation, a statement on the local authority's website said.

Cllr Jewel Miah, leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said: ‘This is an important opportunity for people to help shape the future of local representation in Loughborough and Broadnook.

‘Town and parish councils can help give communities a stronger voice and greater influence over local services and decisions. I encourage everyone to take part in the consultations and have their say.’
