Brighton & Hove City Council has apologised after its refuse collection vehicles were unable to reach the sites of bin stores that were approved by council planners.

Residents have reportedly complained for two years of missed bin collections and a build-up of waste at the site, which belongs to a block of flats.

A council spokesperson apologised and said that they would use a smaller vehicle for collections.

‘We’re really sorry about the refuse collection issues at 251 Preston Road and we are working with Southern Housing to address them,’ they said.

‘Our standard 26-foot refuse vehicles cannot access the area at the back of the building where the bins are. This has contributed to missed collections.

‘So we’re currently doing a pickup with a much smaller vehicle instead.

‘We are monitoring the situation to ensure that residents receive regular collections.’
