Repeated efforts to give Inverness city centre a community council have been boosted by fresh proposals.
Attempts to create a community council for the area have previously floundered due to a lack of interest.
But The Highland Council is now consulting on the Crown Community Council expanding to cover the city centre.
City of Inverness area leader, Cllr Ian Brown, said: ‘We are delighted that there is the possibility of the city centre once again having a community council to represent it. ‘Community councils play a vital role in their communities and we welcome the opportunity for the centre of our city to benefit from this representation.’
The Highland Council’s acting head of community and democratic engagement, David Haas, added: ‘Although Crown Community Council is agreeable to a merger, as are the local ward members, we feel it is important to have a period of consultation to allow the public to express their views and opinions.’
