More than 500 youth workers and education welfare officials have applied for 296 posts in Birmingham City Council’s reorganised children’s services unit.
Some 350 posts are earmarked to disappear as the council plans to save £4.4m by reorganising education and family support services.
The previous set-up of youth teams, welfare officers and the Connexions Service is to be replaced by 16 family support teams in the city’s most deprived areas.
