Birmingham City Council suspended its director of children’s social care last week, but the council denied the move was in response to a child death in the city.
The council refused to comment on the suspension of Colin Tucker, apart from confirming reports of his departure last week.
However, a spokesman for Birmingham claimed the suspension was not connected to the death of a two-year-old boy on Sunday (9 January), which would be reviewed by the safeguarding children board.
