Nearly 50 child pedestrians are killed or injured on England’s roads every day, a new study has revealed.
Freedom of information requests sent by Personal Injuries Claims UK to 304 councils across England show a 16% increase in the number of child road casualties over the last year.
Between 2021/22, the number of children (aged 0-15) who were killed or injured as pedestrians rose from 15,366 to 17,846.
Birmingham was found to have the most child fatalities and injuries out of any other local authority area during that period. Figures rose 14% in the district from 134 child casualties in 2021 to 153 the following year.
The second-highest figures in the country were recorded in Leeds with a total 210 casualties. It was followed by Bradford which had 191 child pedestrian fatalities and injuries in the same period.
