Outsourcing giant, Capita, has announced a record bid ‘pipeline’ of £4.7bn, despite the public sector slowdown.
The firm announced last week its contract wins had slipped from £1bn in 2009 to £795m in 2010, but also reported a 2% increase in turnover.
Capita won several local government contracts and extensions in 2010, including deals with Harrow LBC, West Sussex CC, and the Nottinghamshire CC and East Midlands Broadband Consortium.
The company also revealed it had won £244m of new contracts and renewals in the first seven weeks of 2011.
‘We enter the year with a record bid pipeline, increasing activity across the public and private sectors, and some encouraging new contract wins,’ said Capita chief executive, Paul Pindar. ‘The need for our public sector clients to achieve substantial cost savings and for private sector clients to increase their efficiency to remain competitive offers significant opportunities for the group.’
Birmingham City Council’s business transformation programme, which is supported by Service Birmingham – a joint venture with Capita – recently celebrated its fifth anniversary.
The programme has, so far, saved the council £244m, with £93.6m of future savings annually.
