Lincolnshire County Council has launched a review after the tragic death of two-year-old Bronson Battersby.

The toddler’s body was found starved to death alongside his father on 9 January who had suffered a fatal heart attack over the Christmas period.

Bronson was known to children's services and was classed as vulnerable and subject to checks at least once a month.

A social worker had contacted his father on 27 December to arrange a visit for 2 January. When there was no answer, the social worker contacted the police and tried to reach other contacts who might know the child’s whereabouts.

The social worker returned to the home on 4 January and was given access to the property by the landlord five days later.

A spokesperson from Lincolnshire Police said: ‘We have initiated a review with partners to properly understand the chronology of these tragic events and until such a time as that review is completed it would be inappropriate to comment further.’

Heather Sandy, executive director for children's services at Lincolnshire County Council, said: ‘This was a tragic incident, and we are supporting the family at this difficult time.

‘We are currently carrying out a review of the case alongside partner agencies to better understand the circumstances, and we await the results of the coroner's investigations as well.

‘Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved.’
