Birmingham City Council has announced a shortlist of four bidders for its pioneering ‘Energy Savers’ scheme to upgrade and improve local homes.
Carillion Energy Services, and consortia led by E.ON Energy Solutions, RWE npower and SSE Energy Solutions have been shortlisted for the £1.5bn contract, which will see the city council team up with 26 contracting authorities to deliver a city-regional deal to reduce carbon emissions and deliver energy saving measures to 15,000 households.
Around 90 bids for the contract were submitted, but the four shortlisted bids will now submit detailed plans to the council.
Mark Barrow, Birmingham’s strategic director for development, said the deal was an ‘important step’ towards meeting the city’s commitment to slash CO2 emissions by 60% by 2026.
‘It is pleasing that we have such strong bidders competing to deliver this ground-breaking programme that will deliver the largest housing refurbishment programme in the country.’
