People without internet access at home can view information about benefits and job opportunities by pressing the red button their TV remote.
People can use the red button on their remote to view pages about Universal Credit (UC), Universal Job Match and The Money Advice Service. The Department for Work and Pensions, in partnership with Looking Local, have also launched the first public sector service interface for a games console, with people able to access details on UC through their Wii.
Sky and Virgin customers can also scroll through their interactive menu to view the pages.
Minister for welfare reform, Lord Freud, said: ‘As we continue with the rollout of Universal Credit, increasing numbers of people will need to know how it affects them and how to prepare.
‘Working with Looking Local, we have ensured as many tools as possible exist for people to find out everything they need to know about the easier to understand and more flexible benefit that is Universal Credit.
‘We are also making sure Universal Credit is an opportunity for people to build online skills, so they can look for work and benefit from what the online world offers for 21st century life.’
Figures suggest that seven million adults do not have internet access at home.
