BCP Council has launched a consultation on proposals to prohibit barbeques in public spaces and other ‘negative behaviours’.
The local authority is asking people for their views on the potential introduction of three Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) to cover coastal areas, some open spaces, highways and car parks.
A council statement said the proposal ‘follows concerns raised by local communities and visitors during the summer months, when a number of negative behaviours by some individuals impacted on the enjoyment of our beaches and open spaces and had a detrimental effect on the environment.’
The PSPOs would see a ban on overnight camping and sleeping, lighting open fires, and barbeques. They would also see a ban on overnight sleeping in vehicles, loud music and ‘acting in an anti-social manner’.
Cllr Bobbie Dove, portfolio holder for Community Safety, said: ‘A public consultation is the best way to find out how people want concerns addressed.
‘While we're keen to make Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole safer places to enjoy and visit, it's also vital our communities have the opportunity to comment on our proposals. We want to know what you think about our suggestions.
‘I ask people to read the documentation carefully, complete the consultation and share any other ideas that can help guide us towards the right solution for the community.’
