Zeta Specialist Lighting

Cheshire East Highways street lighting team is the first in the UK to retro-fit heritage-style lanterns with a brand new solution launched by Bicester-based LED and solar powered lighting systems specialist, Zeta Specialist Lighting.

Heritage lanterns sited on one of Macclesfield’s most cherished landmarks, The 108 Steps, a steep but functional stairway from Water’s Green to St Michael’s Church, have been retro-fitted with Zeta’s brand new heritage LED conversion solution, SmartScape Heritage.

Part of a planned new range of LED and solar powered solutions for street and area lighting, Zeta’s SmartScape Heritage provides local authorities with the ability to retain rather than replace heritage-style lanterns in historic positions, when upgrading to energy efficient LED technology.

Zeta’s intelligent design means that the integrated engine can be engineered to fit into a vast range of different heritage lantern shapes and sizes, making it a wholly flexible retro-fit solution for heritage-style public lighting in residential streets, roads, pathways or parks.

Cheshire East Highways is managing an industry leading, Borough-wide programme to replace street lighting lanterns with energy-efficient, carbon saving LED lighting, a move that it predicts will realise up to a 40 per cent saving in energy usage and a 35% reduction in carbon.

For the regeneration team in Macclesfield, updating the lighting in line with the rest of the Borough was a high priority. “However, preserving the historic town centre stairway’s legacy heritage lighting was really important,” said Paul Traynor - Strategic Commissioning Manager - Highways, Cheshire East Council.

“With Zeta’s Heritage LED Conversion, we have retained the all-important character of the area, while simultaneously achieving our goal to convert to LED technology, allowing for the improvements to benefit as many residents as possible,” Traynor added.

The new Zeta Heritage LED Conversion is available in energy-efficient 30W and 45W variants, in contrast fluorescent lamps run at 55W and 75W respectively, uniquely it can also be configured so that it will continue to run for a few hours during a power cut.
