Worcester is the UK city with the most accessible parking, according to the results of a new survey.

Published by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts for Disability History Month, the survey shows that 96% of the city's car parks offer accessible spaces for Blue Badge holders.

Epsom came in second place in the accessible parking index, with 95% of car parks catering for Blue Badge holders. Croydon came in third place, with 95% of parking spaces being accessible.

Cllr Andy Stafford, chair of Worcester City Council’s environment committee, said: 'Worcester is a city that works hard to accommodate everyone who wants to enjoy the fantastic retail and leisure offer in our city centre, whether they want to get here by car, train, bike or on foot.

'So it’s great news that these efforts are being recognised, especially with our packed programme of Christmas events just round the corner.'

According to the index, Derby is the worst city for disabled parking with 58% of car parks having no accessible options.

However, the council said the data was based on information obtained three years ago so is 'incorrect and based on historical data'. It highlighted it had 35 disabled parking bays within its car parks.

The real lesson of Andy Burnham's Makerfield success, argues Dr Jonathan Carr-West, is that place – not personality – is the key to Britain's future.
